About the book
Arroyo, Calavera Mexicana is a bilingual artist’s book — Spanish and English — in two parts: a catalogue of the six bronze sculptures in the series, and a historical essay on the meaning of the skull in Mexican art from pre-Hispanic cultures to the contemporary period.
The book received 1st place at the Gran Premio de Artes Gráficas 2025 in the art book category.
It is not a photography book about sculpture. It is eight years of research materialized on paper — on Nahuatl philosophy, the duality of life and death, and why the Mexican skull is a symbol of life, not of death.
